Chiluvuru is located in Guntur District, the region which is famous as the hub of history of Andhra Pradesh. Ancient Satavahanas ruled from the nearby Amaravati situated on the bank of Krishna River. In the time of Pallavas and Eastern Chalukyas this region was known as Kammarashtram / Kammanadu, which extended from the southern banks of the Krishna River up to Kandukur (Prakasam Dt.). Subsequently, Eastern Chalukyas and Telugu Cholas held sway in this region. The recent history can be linked to the rule of Vasireddy Venkatadri Nayudu who ruled from Amaravati. The Gali Gopuram (temple tower) in Chiluvuru was built during his time. Chiluvuru is also the home to a few families that belonged to historically famous clan by name "Musunuri" (Musunuri Nayaks). |
